Quilting a Successful Business

What does it take to succeed in business? Ask 100 different people that question and you'll probably get 100 different answers. Because there is no one right answer. The fact is, creating business success is like quilting an elaborate bedcover--it's a patchwork of various pieces carefully woven together to provide you with longlasting comfort and security. It takes time to build, and patience. When you gather up the miscellaneous resources and start adding them piece-by-piece, however, you'll start seeing the results almost immediately, in increments that are directly proportional to your efforts.

Like the quilt that grows from a one-square-foot handtowel to a handsome king-sized comforter, so too will your business grow as you add more resources to your business model. So what types of resources can help you get your business on the fast-track to success?

Check out some of these that I've found, which I've already put to profitable use in my own business:

  • Marketing

    Keyword Research Guide

This FREE little eBook from the fine folks at Wordtracker.com provides lots of tips on marketing and discovering how to attract more customers by appealing to their needs. Of course the book is slanted toward web success, but the tips and techniques shared by the experts who contributed their knowledge can be used for any business, online or offline. It's a quick, fun read, and the insights are extremely valuable.

  • Entrepreneurship

    Association of Web Entrepreneurs

This new website, which is brought to you by Sheri' McConnell (president of the National Association of Women Writers), is an all-in-one place for learning how to leverage your knowledge to boost your business to the next level. Sheri', who is an expert at growing a business from the ground up, helps entrepreneurs focus on making more money by working smarter, not harder. Her new website is populated by a phenomenal group of experts who are making six-figure incomes and more, and the expertise they share is worth more than their weight in gold.

  • Business Grants

    Small Business Grants

You've heard me rave about the Business Owners Idea Cafe website--now they've added another feature that's sure to change the lives of their "regulars." The website, which is devoted to helping small business owners and new entrepreneurs achieve their business objectives, has a huge community of forums, as well as tons of free information to answer all your business questions, and now they're regularly giving away $1,000 grants to small businesses. You have to be registered as a "regular" to apply for their grants, but registration is free, and you can apply for a grant even if you're just planning to start a business. Check out their website for details at: Business Owners Idea Cafe. Application deadline for the current grant is November 15, 2006.

So you see, the best way to achieve success in business is to just keep at it. Don't let anyone or anything deter you from reaching your goals. Even if you can only work on your "quilt" one hour a day, you're still creating a durable future that will provide you with comfort for many years to come. Happy quilting everyone!
