Dear Reader, Welcome to this issue of The ART of Business newsletter and a big welcome to all the new subscribers. Today is the last day of school here in Arizona and we're gearing up for the summer party crowds who will be flocking to our town this Memorial Day weekend. During the winter, Lake Havasu is a popular destination for snowbirds--the senior citizens who live in the northern states and Canada that want to escape the cold and snow--but during the summer, it's the college crowds that bring in the tourist dollars. Unfortunately, our little town seems to have forgotten the Golden Rule of business: give your customers what they want, the way they want it. Last year, the number of summer visitors dropped dramatically because our local government decided the MTV crowd was too rowdy so they enacted several "quality of life" laws that essentially bans people from having a good time out on the lake. While I agree that topless women in thongs and drunken twenty-somethings aren't exactly family fare along the shoreline, I don't have a problem with their rated "R" activities when they confine them to the areas of the lake known as the Sand Bar and Copper Canyon. This is where the party crowds like to hang out, and since both areas are fairly secluded from passers-by on the lake, there's not much danger that families with young children will be exposed to them if they steer clear of those two areas. However, our city council saw things differently and now those two areas are closed during peak summer weekends, like Memorial Day and the Fourth of July. And now they're freaking out because the tourist dollars are drying up! Duh! I guess our town council decided that appealing to this target market isn't necessary. And our town will suffer because of it. Don't let this happen to your business. Read our feature article below on "Who is Your Target Market?" Hope you all have a safe and happy weekend, and if you're in the U.S. celebrating Memorial Day, please remember to say a prayer for all the veterans who have given their lives to keep America the land of the free. And make sure you check out our Memorial Day Special offer at the end of this newsletter too. It might just be the opportunity you've been waiting for! Angel Brown

I have to laugh at some of these so-called "reality shows." Most of them are so scripted it's hard to believe they can get away with calling them "reality." The majority of them seem to be designed to highlight the darker side of human nature--lots of bickering and back-stabbing going on, but very little takeaway value. One show I do enjoy is The Apprentice. As a former New Yorker, I think it's funny to see Donald Trump on TV, all pompous and arrogant, trying to find the perfect job applicant to help him run one of his many companies. Whether you like him or not, there's no arguing with the fact that this man knows what it takes to succeed in business.
