pileofpaper.jpgHave you ever noticed how your personal life creaps in and affects your business life? This seems to be even more true if you’re an entrepreneur or small business owner. A case in point:

This month, I’ll be discussing office management for entrepreneurs and small business owners. And, as I started to plan out this month’s content I realized how, once again, my life illustrates some points I think should be made. So, since this is the first of the month, the day I post off-topic stuff, I thought I’d share a bit about my life and how it fits into the topic.

Right now, my office is in a disarray. Piles of paper cover my desk, the floor in front of my desk, as well as the floor next to the floor infront of my desk. You see, last month I started some spinal decompression therapy and all my free time was sucked into a black hole.

Do As I Say Not As I Do

frazeled.jpgBoy! Am I ever learning about time management this month! This weekend I had a long list of things I wanted (needed) to do. Among them was write the Portrait of Geri that was due last month, prepare the marketing materials for this month’s Portrait, and write today’s blog post.

Well, none of that got done, because when I went to go write this post, I couldn’t access the website! Erg. One of the plugins had a conflict and basically broke everything. I had to spend the entire weekend re-building the website. And, as you can see, I haven’t finished.

So, what does all this have to do with time managment? Everything.

Welcome March!

sprocket.jpgI am so glad February is over. I don’t know why, but February is always a challenging month. Usually, it is only challenging financially, but this February was challenging emotionally, too.

Let me back up a moment. I happen to be blessed with the best dog ever. That’s her picture here (for scale, those tiles are a square foot). We’ve been together for 13 years come March 25. She has a few health issues — epilepsy, hip dysplasia, a thyroid condition and Cushing’s disease. Early in February, she started having bloody noses. After a few days, she started sneezing blood all over the place. It was a mess.

At first, we thought it could be a growth in her nose, and nasal growths are cancerous about 99% of the time. Then we discovered she had high blood pressure, probably caused by the Cushing’s, and that was causing the bloody noses.

Then, one night, she had a seizure and had a really hard time recovering from it. I thought she had had a stroke and I was going to have to put her down. Continue Reading →
