The Single-Action Website: Landing Pages, Squeeze Pages and Minisites

If you're new here, you'll want to be sure to get your free report and subscribe to the monthly e-zine and, perhaps, subscribe to the RSS feed, as well. Thanks for visiting!

There are several types of website you can have, and as your business becomes more robust, you’ll probably have some of each of them:

  • The Squeeze Page
  • The Sales Page
  • The Branding Website
  • The Feeder Site

In today’s post, I’m going to talk about the first two types of website, which are really just specific types of minisites.

What is a minisite, you say? A minisite is a small website that consists of just a few pages. A basic minisite is comprised of:

1. The Landing Page
This is the page the visitor first encounters. It is the page that asks them to either take the action you request or leave. The action you request can be to opt-in (a squeeze page) or to purchase a product (a sales page).

Get Their Name and Follow Up: Opt-In Boxes & Autoresponders

Sample Opt-inIt has been said that if you don’t have a list, then you don’t have a business. So, how do you collect prospect’s names and market to them through your website?

You have an opt-in box that collects their names and email addresses and loads them into an autoresponder.

In this post, I’m going to concentrate on the design aspects of these two key parts of your website.

The Opt-In Box

Your opt-in box should be prominent on your home-page. It should be “above the fold” — that is people should have to scroll down the page to get to it, and it should stand out from the rest of the page.

Now, there are some exceptions to this rule — as in cases where the home-page’s primary purpose is not to collect prospect’s names — but, for the most part, these rules hold.

Partner Your Way to a Bigger Opt-In List

Joint Venture PartnersJoint ventures (JV) are by far one of the best ways for you to grow your list. Basically, you partner with another business that has a list of people who might be interested in what you have to offer. Even better, the members of your list might be interested in what your JV partner has to offer, as well. Together you create value for the members of both your lists!

A good example is what I’ve been doing with the Turbo-Charge Your Marketing program. Here’s, in a nutshell, what I’ve done:

  1. I developed a curriculum of information that members of my list are interested in.
  2. I found professionals who could deliver this information in a meaningful way.
  3. I coordinated teleseminars with each of these professionals and invited the members of my list to attend. My JV partner also invited members of his or her list to attend.

Now here’s how I grew my list with this technique:

In order to get the information to attend the teleseminar, people had to sign up for my opt-in list!

Of course, the above is a simplification of what I’ve done. But I think it gives you the basics of what is necessary to build an opt-in list with joint ventures.

Using Giveaway Events to Build Your List

Giveaway EventsHere’s a tactic that can really grow your list quickly … if you do it the right way. Here are some tips and things to keep in mind if you choose to use this technique to build your list.

What is a giveaway event?

Some internet marketers hold giveaway events that are nothing more than list-building marathons. The way these work is that when you join to provide a gift for the giveaway, it is a given that you will market the giveaway to your list. This helps everyone participating in the giveaway build their lists because they will now have exposure to members of your list and the lists of all the members of the giveaway.

Other giveaways are used to promote the launch of a new book or product. In this type of giveaway, you provide a gift and when someone buys the book or product they are given the opportunity to download your gift in exchange for giving you their name and email address.

Do Giveaway Events Really Work?

Yes and no. I’ve had great success building my list with some giveaway events and abysmal results with others. Continue Reading →

Article Marketing Can Build Your List

Article Marketing LibraryWrite great articles, post them on articles directories, and visitors will come to your website just to get more and to opt-in to you list. This is not a “build your list fast” technique, but it is a powerful one in the long run. I’ve used it to build highly targeted lists for some of my websites and am always surprised at how well it works.

Here are the steps you need to take to use article marketing to build your list.

Step 1: Keyword/Topic Research
What keywords and topics are potential customers using to find the type of information and services you provide? Create a list and use this as an idea generator for your articles.

Step 2: Write Informative and Relevant Articles.
Write articles that provide good, valuable information and you’ll automatically create in the reader a desire for more. Make sure these articles are relevant to your target market and what you offer.
